We have prepared a summary of who is responsible for maintenance prior to full handover. You can read all about Who is Responsible for Maintenance Pre-Handover? in our blog post.
We have been in contact with Bloor Homes following complaints from a number of residents. Below is our most recent request:
As you know, Bloor Homes is currently responsible for maintaining the Public Open Space in line with the Landscape Management Plan (see attached). This was approved under Condition 19 of the Planning Consent reference: P15/V2447/FUL, dated 1st November 2016. Based on the state of the POS, it’s clear that Bloor hasn’t been doing that in the last few years.
The following work needs to be done urgently. This is the work that the Bloor Adoptions Manager should be picking up on his regular site visits. Photos are available here: https://www.flickr.com/gp/90401043@N03/354s218799. These photos should highlight the problem. Let me know if you have any problems in accessing these photos.
The work to be undertaken comprises the following:
- Weeding needs to be undertaken all around the POS. Specifically, around the playground, but it’s fair to say that no weeding has been undertaken anywhere on the development in the past two years.
- Weed killer needs to be sprayed on the roads, specifically the block paved roads on the development, where weeds are growing in between the blocks.
- The Balancing Ponds need to be cleared of all weeds/plants which have now firmly taken hold. Residents were advised that this was to be undertaken twice every year. No evidence of that happening in recent times.
- I understand that Green and Growing have been asked by Bloor Homes to reduce the scope of the grass cutting in specific areas. This includes just inside the low wooden rails around the balancing ponds. This work needs to be restarted and undertaken on every visit.
- There are plants growing alongside residents’ fences in the Public Open Space which is now causing problems – this needs to be cut right back.
Ideally, the RA needs you to engage with us to confirm the works that need to be completed, PRIOR to the work being undertaken. If this doesn’t happen, the RA needs you to confirm the timeline for this work to be undertaken. After you confirm the works have been completed, the RA will review and confirm that this work can be signed off.
We suspect that Bloor Homes will not engage with the TDRA, but we live in hope!

Hi Nigel,Many thanks for all your work on behalf of Dovecote residents.
We live in one of the bungalows at the far end of Plough Lane & feel our part of the development is a bit forgotten. Our bungalow overlooks the footpath, which argueably, sees more footfall than the main entrance in Furlongs. Parents & children going to/from school, dog walkers etc. There are a number of issues with weeds & dead trees that need resolving. I have photograps but csnnot see a facility to attach them here. We sincerely hope you will include work to this end of the development in your communications with Bloor.

Thanks for getting in contact! I will make sure Bloor address issues at your end of the development as well.By Rhonda Simpkin on September 28, 2023 at 7:30 pm
Hi Nigel,Thank you for keeping on top of all of this, it is much appreciated. There is a fallen tree in the wooded area behind the bungalows - they have just been mowing around it but it needs to be removed. Agree with Fiona, there are about 4 or 5 dead trees on the far side of the bungalows that need replacing. I know there was a post a while ago with some residents having bad smells coming from drains inside their houses after it rains - not sure if that can be included here but if it is in more than one house across the development it may be a problem with the drains generally ?By Nige on September 29, 2023 at 6:31 am
Thanks Rhonda. I will add your points to the snagging notes. In terms of your ref to smells after it rains, suggest you and any other residents report this to Bloor via Customer Services in the first instance (contact details available under Tools ->Find a Contact) and it might also be worth advising Thames Water as well. If Thames Water know there are multiple residents reporting issues with drains, they may include it on their requirements of Bloor before they adopt the waste system.
