Following on from our post the other day about the arts funding, the Arts Development Officer sent the following through to us, together with a Powerpoint. deck:

We are fortunate enough to have an active planning policy that encourages most new developments to contribute towards art in the local area.

Public Art can have many benefits and functions, it isn’t just a sculpture on a plinth – it can be a creative approach to seating, paving, fences and other street furniture. In Drayton you might have noticed the walnut shaped bollards – it helps prevent parking on the grass but also celebrates the history of Drayton being a walnut orchard. There is also an exciting proposal for new entrance signs for the village on Abingdon Road, Steventon Road and the High Street (due to be installed later this year).

The Dovecote development has contributed funding for public art in the area – this can be on site, but also you might like to consider contributing to art for other public areas in the village which can be a wonderful community project.

We would like to have an ideas session of what you would like from public art.

Ideas so far have been to create a creative and bespoke dovecote for the site, other artworks within the village art trail, interactive sculpture to sit on and play on or even exciting paving! We will be looking at setting up a Facebook Live event shortly.
