Quick update on what the Elected Committee has been up to recently:

[insert-clear-float]

  1. We had an initial call with Chamonix on Tue 15 Sep. The rep we spoke to works for Chamonix Property Care (CPC) in the role of Handover Manager. His job is to accept responsibility for the common areas from Bloor (on behalf of the MC) and he will subsequently proactively manage the common areas, suggesting works to be undertaken for the MC to approve spend on. He’s worked at CPC for 9 years so he knows how handover works. He is currently managing 800-900 units (houses/flats etc) on behalf of CPC.
    • This was a positive start to our collaboration on handover but there was a lot of classic sales patter, which we are going to try to break through in our next meeting.
  2. He has had his first meeting with Bloor to walk around the site. This took place on Thu 27 Aug and from his comments to us he’s clear there is a significant amount of work still to be completed by Bloor before any handover can take place. That’s no surprise to us!
    • He’s proposing to take a phased handover approach, where chunks of the site are handed over to Chamonix over time. Although this sounds a logical approach, we have emphasised that we should only be considering handover when Bloor has completed everything. Otherwise we run the risk of there being ambiguity in responsibilities. We suspect the phased approach allows Chamonix to start charging the MC for the work that they are doing, sooner than if they had to wait for the whole development to be handed over.
  3. Our next meeting with Chamonix is scheduled for Mon 28 Sep which will be face to face. We will be meeting him and our Chamonix Account Manager and we will be laying out the approach we’d like us to take, working in a collaborative way. It will be interesting to see what their reaction to this is.
  4. Garin, as our council rep, continues to flesh out how adoption will work and how adoption fits into the overall handover approach. He has actively engaged Vale and Oxfordshire County Council asking highly technical questions that some of us only hope to understand one day!
  5. The Elected Committee continues to meet on a fortnightly basis, at which we provide the latest updates on our primary goals: engaging Chamonix and clarifying the adoption process. It feels like the team are working well together and we are sharing responsibilities to help keep the level of work to a reasonable level. We will create a folder in the shared area to store published minutes so you can see what we are up to.

In summary, it feels like we are starting to get some traction now. We will continue to keep everyone updated. Feel free to get in contact if there’s anything you want to raise with the RAEC.
