Surfacing Update: Just had a call back from our Adoptions Manager and we talked about the letter and the plan for the resurfacing (amongst other things). Key points:

  • As expected, the Bloor Adoption Manager confirmed that the letter is a standard template letter providing the minimal amount of info they can get away with. Their thinking is that adding too much detail in a letter loses the focus of the message.
  • The key message is that there will be disruption over the 3 weeks starting next week (surprise surprise). The key info is to use the telephone number quoted in the letter.
  • The telephone number should put you directly in contact with the ECL Site Manager. He is organising things on site during this period and he will sort out any issues we may encounter.
  • Work on site could easily change on a day to day basis based on progress and issues they uncover, which is another reason why they don’t include a lot of detail in the letter.
  • The one house that didn’t receive a letter yesterday will receive it today, hand delivered by Riccardo (whoopee).
  • As everyone now knows, the tarmac is being laid on Wed-Fri next week. The rest of the time is being used to lay the block paving in the two intersections. So clearly that will also cause us some challenges.

This is our suggestion:

  • Our working assumption here is that Bloor will leave the site accessible overnight. I.e. there may be disruption during the day, but at the end of the day they will make the site accessible.
  • For anyone needing access to their homes via the road during the 3 weeks of potential disruption, where you can not make reasonable efforts to work around (e.g. leaving the development before 8am, leaving your car outside the development, organising deliveries for early or late etc), then ring the number quoted and also send an email to the email address quoted on the letter.
  • Make it clear that certain things MUST happen on a given day and/or time and Riccardo will do his very best to support you in making it happen.
  • We’d suggest you get in contact with them NOW for anything we know is going to happen in the 3 weeks and we’d follow it up with a call/email 2 days before each event happens to remind Riccardo as to what will be happening in two days time.
  • So take ownership for your own plans and make it clear that ECL needs to help you in making those plans happen.
  • The more of a fuss you make about the things that you have planned, the more likely they will help you make those things happen. This is not a time to be shy! Be assertive and polite.
